ABOUT US

The National Center for Transgender Equality is the leading civil rights organization led for trans people, by trans people, winning real policy changes that improve our lives. In the nation’s capital and throughout the country, NCTE works to replace disrespect, discrimination, and violence with empathy, opportunity, and justice.

Right now in America, transgender people are more visible and prouder than ever before. At the same time, we're experiencing attacks on our community at a magnitude we’ve never seen. Anti-trans lawmakers have rushed to restrict our rights at every turn. Halfway through 2023, 110 anti-trans bills had advanced for votes in state legislatures across the country.

NCTE helped to defeat 66 of them.

The TEN Awards is a time to celebrate these wins, to remember our collective strength, and to joyfully resist queer and trans oppression. Trans people have existed for hundreds of years. We’ve always been here – and we’re not going anywhere, no matter how hard our opposition tries to change that. With your support, even in the face of threats to our rights and safety, we will protect each other.

NCTE envisions a society in which transgender people not only survive, but thrive, with accepting families and communities, full self-determination over their identities and bodies, and freedom from disrespect, discrimination and violence. For this vision to become a reality, we must also create equity, equal opportunity, safety, health, and economic well-being for all people over their entire lifetimes.
